Markcus Lawson
Mr. Markcus Lawson was born and raised in Fitzgerald, Georgia. After earning his bachelor’s of science in biology degree, he began teaching at Worth County High School in Sylvester, GA. After earning his teaching certificate through GaTAPP, he relocated to middle Georgia and began teaching at Howard High School. During his time at Howard High, he taught a variety of science courses ranging from AP Chemistry to Physical Science and Forensics. Outside of his day job, he has held teaching positions with the Georgia Department of Corrections, Central Georgia Technical College, and Foothills Regional High School.

As a high school physical science teacher, he helped improve the school’s CCRPI Science Content Mastery from 52% to 68% through student Physical Science Milestones scores, supporting the overall CCRPI increase from 68% to 71% in an academic year. Mr. Lawson served as the Freshmen Academy Coordinator, in this role he promoted students’ physical, intellectual, social, cultural, and emotional well-being. Through executing a comprehensive school RTI program, his team was able to decrease the number of freshmen requiring Tier III RTI interventions by 40% in reading and math support classes in an academic year. As assistant principal, he led the team in effectively implementing PBIS, decreasing the annual discipline referrals by 63% in the first year as AP of Operations.

Mr. Lawson obtained his master’s degree in Biology and a graduate certificate in Emerging Infectious Diseases. He earned his Tier 1 leadership certificate from Kennesaw State University and his Tier 2 certificate and Specialist in Leadership from the University of West Georgia.  Mr. Lawson is currently completing his doctoral degree at Liberty University. Mr. Lawson enjoys carpentry, cooking, and traveling during his free time. He is the proud father of a very energetic two-year-old, Zachary.
